A BALANCED TRAINING REGIMEN

A balanced training regimen is much like a balanced diet. The food pyramid referred to by nutritionists can be likened to a mountain bike training program for racers and enthusiasts. The bottom/base level of the pyramid represents low intensity, high volume training. The top of the pyramid represents high intensity, low volume training. The low intensity, base miles are the foundation for higher intensity training. By combining long, low intensity training rides with shorter, higher intensity training (such as intervals) your training regimen will be well balanced.
