Most mountain bike races start out fast. Make that VERY fast!
Often times the speed results because the course quickly narrows from a wide road to a singletrack trail.
Everyone is racing to get to be the first one to that trail, so that as traffic slows to funnel down, you're
already flying down the singletrack trail. So, if you're going for a win, fight for the front, and then keep
going very hard to put an immediate gap on the competition that is funneling. You can help prepare for this
intense effort with an intense warm-up that includes a few lengthy, maximum effort sprints. So, is the race
over in less than one lap? No, but you can certainly make it easier to win or place well by focusing on a
